All Saint's Day||ALL SAINTS’ SERVICES
NOVEMBER 3 & 4, 2017
The first Sunday of November is devoted not to
specific saints, but to all saints. One reason we
remember the saints is precisely because they were
such great stewards of God’s grace while among us.
Often, the churches we worship in were built because
of the sacrificial giving of those who have gone
before. This is an important time to remember the
degree to which the life of the church in it current
form is funded and built up by the saints who are
now dead and rest in Christ. We celebrate their gifts.
We also celebrate them as models of faithfulness, and
remember that God was faithful with them in the
same was God is now faithful with us. We remember
the saints not because they were saintly but because
God in Christ has sanctified them [made them holy].
We look to the saints and see the works of God
shining in and through them. This is what it means to
remember the saints, all saints. During the services
on All Saints’ weekend, we will remember our
deceased loved ones.
