Mace, R. Douglas "Doug"
Age 84, left us suddenly on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean Mace; sons, Craig Mace and Scott Mace; one grandchild, Kendra Mace, all of Elmira Heights, NY. He leaves behind four nieces and four nephews; and five great grand nephews and three great grand nieces. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Mace; mother, Kittie Mace; and sister, Virginia Andrews. Doug proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was a manager and salesman for various transportation companies. He was a long time member of the Horseheads Elks Club as well as a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Horseheads. Doug was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, Inc., 413 S. PACKARD, Margaret E. Doty
Passed away on Friday morning, July 31, 2015 at the age of 94. Margaret was born in Elmira, NY, October 22, 1920, daughter of the late Mina Belle Evans and Clarence Oliver Doty. She was pre-deceased by her husband Allen D. Packard, Sr., brothers David Charles and Richard Evans Doty, and sister Eleanor J. Doty Putney. She is survived by her sons, Allen D. (Terry) Packard, Jr. of Ballston Spa, NY and Gary R. (Carol) Packard of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Melissa (Rob) Williamson, Scott (Lorraine) Packard, David Packard, John (Caroline) Packard and Mary Beth Phifer; six great-grandchildren; sister Marjorie A. Doty (Vinnie) Magaw; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret enjoyed many years of retirement from Mechanics Savings Bank by spending time with her family, camping, playing cards and volunteering. She was a very active lady, involved with the Cub Scouts, Parents Teachers Associations, Mothers March of Dimes, Ground Observers Corps, Sunday School Teacher, Chemung County Chamber of Commerce, Elcor, Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Horseheads Historical Society, Red Cross Blood Drives, election inspector, and at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, where she was a Lay Eucharistic Minister. Thanks to the Elcor Skilled Nursing Staff in Hickory Knoll for their care. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Margaret's life on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11AM at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 410 South Main St., Horseheads, NY with Rev. Robert Adkins officiating. She will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery with her husband at the convenience of the family. COLE, Harold P.
Age 88 of Corning and longtime resident of Big Flats, NY passed away Jan. 18, 2016. He was born in Cuba, NY to the late Clarendon and Stella (Barnes) Cole. Harold is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (Butts) Cole; daughters and son, John Cole of Moretown, VT, Kate (Jeff) Sonner of Corning, NY, Sara Cole (Mark Sullivan) of Middleton, WI, Jenny Cole of Corning, NY; grandchildren, Zachary (Catina) Sonner and Hannah Sonner; Andy, Keara, and Maryclaire Sullivan; brother, Monroe Cole of Dansville, PA; and nieces and nephews. Harold was also predeceased by his brother, Odge Cole.Harold was a graduate of Cuba High School and Alfred State College. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving aboard the submarine USS Diablo during WWII. After the war he pursued his love of flying and became Chief Pilot for Corning Inc. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, traveling from Alaska throughout the continental United States and Hawaii. He was an avid skier and skied until the age of 80. Throughout his retirement he remained active in aviation and was a volunteer at the Warplane Museum. Harold also enjoyed painting and the arts. Jean K. Mace (Kankus) of Elmira Heights passed away unexpectedly at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday morning, October 20, 2016. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert "Doug" Mace, in 2015. Jean is survived by her loving family, sons, Craig Mace and Scott Mace; and granddaughter, Kendra Mace, all of Elmira Heights, NY; brother, Richard Kankus; sisters-in-law, Maddy Kankus and Peg Kankus; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Dunmore, PA, to the late Michael and Leona (Pierson) Kankus. Jean was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and active in Classy Lassies. She was an active book reader and enjoyed needle work. She was also a long time member and communicant of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Horseheads.
